About Me

Hey, I'm Tobby, I live in Denver, CO with my wife and pug Strawberry. I'm a staff software engineer at manifold.ai where I work on the Core Services team.

I started my career as a machine learning engineer having been very fascinated by it in college. When I got a big boy job in tech, I realized my physics PhD coworkers were way better than me at math stuff and at the same time the allure of building software beckoned -- the instinct so strongly trained during my years in undergrad and grad school.

At some point, I began recognizing things I learned in my CS degree out in the wild. A coworker (much more senior than I) once paired on debugging a complex networking problem one of our services was having and it clicked in that moment: that networking course I took was useful after all (and all those other classes). Ever since, I've been obsessed with building software and overthinking how a solution could be better.

Lately, I am at the intersection of leading a small pod of engineers and individually contributing to large architectural endeavors. I enjoy the fast pace and opportunities for ownership that startups offer while also working with small and experienced teams to serve customers and feeling energized about the work that I do.
